Ms. Mary Elizabeth Payton, 77, of 602 Salem Street in Anderson, SC, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at her home.

She is survived by her seven children, Diane (Sonny) Watkins, Corrie (Willie) Hunter, Teresa Payton, Delores Cook, David Payton, Angela Cook, and Maria Cook (Donnie) all of Anderson, SC; two sisters, Cleo Ferguson of Cleveland, Ohio and Freddie Hudson of Anderson, SC; two brothers, George (Judy) Blackwell of Cleveland, Ohio and Marrell Crosby of Miami, Florida; fifteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; a close friend of the family, Charlie Henderson; and a host of relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Cook; parents, David and Corrie Blackwell Payton; stepmother, Vera Payton; grandparents, Wilton Payton, Sylvester Gillard, Ollie Blackwell; one great granddaughter, Brinisha Payton Vessels; special niece, Nell Sullivan; and two uncles, Lonnie Blackwell and Lawrence Blackwell.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Starr, SC.  The interment will follow in the church cemetery.
