With grateful hearts and quiet sorrow, we rejoice in knowing that our beloved father, Willie Alvin Hunter, Jr. made his triumphant entry into the arms of God on Palm Sunday, April 13, 2025. At the blessed age of 90, Alvin answered his call and entered his heavenly home.
He was born May 21, 1934 to the late Willie Alvin Hunter, Sr. and Addie Clemons Hunter. Deacon Hunter was a faithful servant. He walked with God all the days of his life. He touched countless lives with his love, prayers, and gentle spirit. Although we mourn his absence, we rejoice in knowing he now rests in eternal peace, surrounded by the glory of heaven. He went to Reed Street School. He worked for many years for Jim Connell Chevrolet and in the textile industry. He was a devoted member of Pleasant Grove Baptist church for his entire life. He served in various capacities throughout the years (to name a few): choir member, Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee Ministry, church custodian, and chairman of the Deacon Board for many years. Alvin was also an avid gardener.
Alvin leaves behind a family who will forever cherish his memories: sons, Albert Leroy (Debra) Hunter and Willie Alvin (Joann) Hunter, III; daughters, Betty H. (Enoch W.) Paul and Lessie H. (Daron) Brownlee; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Hunter; one sister, Anita (Eddie) Ellis; two brothers, Charlie (Ruth) Hunter and John (Catherine) Hunter; sisters-in-law, Thelma Hunter, Lorraine Telford, and Gladys R. Beaty; and brothers-in-law, Nathaniel Beaty, Jr. and William Beaty. He also leaves a legacy of love to his grandchildren to carry on: Dr. Regina Hagood, Kory Hunter, Marcus (Leah) Hunter, Kathy (Michael) Goodine, Rashon (Leia) Hunter, Cee Hunter, Nikesha Hunter, Joshua V. Davis, Thomas Benjamin (Ashley) Davis, Felicia S. Davis, Alton L. (Ariel) Davis, and D.J. Brownlee. a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving church members.
For many years Alvin has been called daddy and granddaddy throughout the community due to his love and compassion for people. He had a special place in his heart for Carolyn Pickens, Tra'Barry Lee, Tra'Sean Lee, and Tra'Bari Lee.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Belle Beaty Hunter; parents, Willie Alvin Hunter, Sr. and Addie Clemons Hunter; son, Larry Marshall Hunter; three brothers, Lewis Cleo "L.C." Hunter, Calvin Leo Hunter, and Bertram Dwight Hunter; sister-in-law, Lois Beaty; and two brothers-in-law, Robert Telford and Douglas M. Beaty.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2025 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The interment will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing Thursday from 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
