Verlena (Oglesby) Robinson

Verlena Oglesby Robinson was born to parents, Johnny and Emma Oglesby Caswell in Oconee County.  At a young age, they moved to Anderson County, where she attended Reed Street School.   

Once she completed schooling, she married Mack Robinson.  They had one son, Kelly.  At this time, her mother who was still living, became ill, asked her sister, Ethelena (Oglesby) Smith, who resided in Texas, to move back and take care of her daughter and grandson.  Once Ethelena moved back to take care of her niece and great nephew, Verlena and Ethelena "Lena" were always peas in a pod. 

Verlena was a member at Christ Temple and later attended River of Life.  She retired from AnMed Health Medical Center (Anderson Memorial Hospital) after working over 40 years as a carrier. 

Verlena will always be known for her scrumptious food, especially carrot cakes and any soul food, and her clothes.  She loved dressing from head to toe with outfits that complimented her beautiful petite-shaped figure.  Her devotion to her son and granddaughters was unparalleled.  She always gave something to the great grands during every holiday, regardless if it was a card with an insert of money or a stuffed animal or figurine.  Her great sense of humor and clever sayings will be greatly missed.

She leaves to mourn her passing: two granddaughters, Kelry (Allison) Preston of Charlotte, NC and Deja Robinson of Simpsonville, SC and four great grandchildren, Masia Tate, Aiden Preston, Reauja Smith and Keigan Preston. A few relatives and friends remain to mourn her transition as well.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Robinson; son, Kelly Robinson; and infant daughter; her parents,  Johnny and Emma Oglesby Caswell; and her beloved aunt,  Aunt  Ethelena "Lena" Smith.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home.  The interment will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens.  Public viewing will be held Thursday from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
