Sylvester Reed, Jr.

Mr. Sylvester Reed, Jr., 75, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at Rainey Hospice House.  

Sylvester graduated from New Deal High School in 1965. He studied Management & Safety at Tri-County Technical College. He retired from BASF after 32 years of service. He enjoyed sports and was an avid golfer and past president of the Electric City Golf Club. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

Sylvester leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 55 years, Doris Poole Reed; two daughters, Stephanie Reed Joseph, Stacey (Terrance) Steward; three grandsons, Bryce Sylvester Miller, Terrance L. Steward II, Kendall M. Joseph; two great-grands, Braylon A. Miller and Karlie B. Latimore; four sisters, Dorothy R. Hall, Mary L. (Jesse Oliver, Sr.), Brenda G. Reed, Velories Reed; in-laws, Ethel M. Rainey, Mary L. Mattress, J.B. Poole, Jr., Charles R. Poole; and a host of nieces, nephews, three aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester & Carrie L. Reed; a grandson, Avery Reed Miller; his brother & sister-in-law, Harry & Carolyn Reed; in-laws, J.B. & Ethel Poole, Sr.; and two brothers-in-law, Leroy Durham and Bennie Poole.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Starr, SC.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1615 Anderson, SC 29622, in memory of Sylvester Reed, Jr.

Friends may pay their respects on Friday from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
