Friday, September 15, 2023 was the day ordained by God. The day our dear mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt answered the call from this life here on earth. Sylvene Wright departed this life peacefully, at her home, where she desired to be.
Sylvene "Sister" as she was fondly called, was born March 13, 1932 to the late Gaties and Annie Wright. She was the baby of four girls and her twin brother. She received her early education at Reed Street School. Sister left Anderson, SC at the tender age of 14 and moved to Brooklyn, NY with her father. In 2012, she returned home after 64 years of living in New York.
Sister LOVED life. Her smile and deep laughter were contagious. She also loved to cook. She was a wonderful old-school cook. She loved to cook pig feet, chitlins, and other soul food dishes. Her famous meals will be remembered by all.
Sister had a quick wit and a clever tongue. She also has a giving spirit and a giving heart. She will truly be missed.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, one son, Anthony Wright (Judy) of Aberdeen, MD; one daughter, Lavern Wright Jones of the home; four grandchildren, LaShawna Moore (Dwayne) of Clinton, MD, LaGretta Wright of Virginia Beach, VA, Abraham Idris "D" Wright, and Annibrelle Wright both of the home; five great-grandchildren, Niziah and Azuriel Wright both of Virginia Beach, VA, Gabrielle A. Moore of Clinton, MD, Azanah and Amiriah Wright both of Anderson, SC; one living older sister, Dorothy Pickens of Brooklyn, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relative, and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her common-law husband, Abraham Devore; one son, Abraham "Lil Abe" Wright; one granddaughter, Tiffany Renona Wright; two sisters, Ruth Thompson and Willie Mae Hatten; and her twin brother, Sylvester Wright.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2023 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home. The interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
The family is at the home, 39 Lemans Drive in Anderson, SC 29626.
