Rosezella (Mattison) Gillard

Rosezella Gillard was born in Anderson, SC to the late Mr. Robert Mattison, Sr. and Mrs. Ruth Lee Mattison on August 26, 1940. She returned to her Heavenly home on April 21, 2023.

Rosezella graduated from Westside High School in 1958. She was a member of the Zion UPH Church and served as a Deaconess, Church secretary and choir member. She loved singing and was also a member of the Pentecostal Fellowship Choir and the organizer for the Zion Youth Choir. She worked at Orr-Lyons Mill for numerous years before ending her working years at Anderson Memorial Hospital.  Rosezella had a passion for people and a love for God. She was a mother to many and loved her family, church and community.

Rosezella was married to the late Warren “Gillie” Gillard. She is survived by two sons, Warren Bernard Gillard (Dollie) and Lafontaine Napoleon Gillard The First (Dana) and one daughter, Sherida Renea Gillard (David) of Anderson, SC; Special children not reared in the home, a son, Swanne Dingle and daughters, Jeannette Dingle and Tracy Mattress of Anderson, SC. She also leaves to cherish her memory three grandchildren reared in the home, Shawana Janiece Gillard, Forris C. R. Gillard (Christine) and Arreisha Shardae Gillard of Anderson, SC along with 18 other grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; sisters Evelyn “Betty” Walston of Greensboro, NC and Verlena Ditty of Anderson, SC; brother-in-law, John L. Gillard (Mary) of Detroit, MI; sisters-in-law, Clara Martin (Dan) of Anderson, SC, Mary Frances Hayes (George) of Phoenix, AZ and Corine Rice (Jim Ed) of Andover, MA along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents and spouse, Rosezella was preceded in death by her son, Ronnie Eugene Gillard; brothers, Robert Mattison, Jr., James Mattison, Curtis Mattison and Timothy Mattison; sisters, Dorothy Hood, Arnetha Hood and Johnnie Clinkscales; parents-in-law, Alonzo and Lucy Moss Gillard; grandparents, Jim and Marie Wilson Mattison and Frank and Dhalia Brown Lee along with four brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2023 at Zion Pentecostal Holiness Church (815 Delia Street, Anderson, SC 29624).  The interment will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens.  Public viewing will be held on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  The family will receive friends from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
