Roosevelt Speed

On April 29, 2026, Roosevelt Speed transitioned to be with the Lord. Roosevelt was born on August 28, 1958, to the late Hosea and Leona Latimer Speed. He graduated from TL Hanna and later attended Benedict College, where he obtained a Bachelor's in Criminal Justice. In his adult years, he was the primary caregiver for his parents. After the death of his father, he moved to Greenville and worked until retirement.

Roosevelt was known for his love for his family and friends, as well as for never meeting a stranger. From his youth to his young adulthood, he attended Generostee Baptist Church.  Also, he was an endearing member of the Epsilon Epsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

Roosevelt leaves to treasure his memories, his former wife, Andrea Russell Speed, daughters, Brittny (Rakeyia) Speed-Lee of Summerville, SC and Kayla (Siara) Grady-Speed of Greenville, SC and son, Deleon White of Anderson, SC; sisters, Ranzella Speed and Felicia Speed of Greenville, SC and brothers, Hosea Speed Jr. and Orlando Speed of Anderson, SC; and his granddaughter, Kaylee Grady-Speed, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Roosevelt was preceded in death by his sister, Elaine Speed Scott, and Lida Bell Speed.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home. The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Memorial Service will begin at 10:45 a.m. 

Public viewing will be held Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m.

A private inurnment will be held at New Silver Brook Cemetery at a later date.
