Robert Spencer Humphrey

Robert S. Humphrey, 90, of 106 Greenland Road, Anderson, SC, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Rainey Hospice House.  We celebrate the life of Mr. Robert Spencer Humphrey born January 15, 1932 in Anderson, SC,  He was the son of the late John and Florence Simpson Humphrey.  He was married to Chestine Gray Humphrey for 54 years.  He graduated from Westside High School Class of 1953 and enlisted in the Army from 1953 to 1955.  

He joined Mt. Sinai United Methodist Church at an early age where he served as a Trustee, Chairman of the Board, the finance committee, Sunday School Teacher and anywhere needed in the church.  

Robert was Past Potentate of Azzam Temple #84, a member of Mistle Toe Chapter #76 of the Eastern Stars, Past Worship Master of Anderson Lodge #207, Treasurer for the VFW Post #6089, a Royal Arch Mason, and a member of other Civic Organizations.  He was also on the board at the Westside Community Center.

He worked at Gene Anderson, True Temper and retired from Duke Power, AnMed Health and Sears. 

Robert was a mild mannered person, who greeted everyone with a smile.  He loved his Westside Rams, Clemson Tigers, and Atlanta Braves.

He leaves to cherish, his wife, his daughter Dalphine Humphrey of Columbia, SC, two sisters Rose Lee Humphrey Patterson of Anderson, SC and Magnolia Humphrey Acker of Williamston, SC, a son-in-law Stacey Hough of Columbia, SC, two grandchildren Naja Hough of Hartford, CT and Staden Hough of Columbia, SC, goddaughter Sonja Renee Turman of Anderson, SC, a special friend of 60 plus years John Lewis Galloway of Anderson, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Denise Humphrey Hough and Toyia Humphrey; five sisters, Vera Simmons Humphrey, Corine Humphrey, Olivia Humphrey, Prince Ola Humphrey Lee and Etta Humphrey Anderson; and three brothers, Willie Humphrey, John Wilson Humphrey and Rev. Larry Humphrey.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2022 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home.  The interment will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens.  Public viewing will be held on Saturday from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
