Obituary

Mr. Richard Parks, Jr., 93 departed this life on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at AnMed Health Medical Center. He was born on June 29, 1929 in Anderson County of South Carolina as the only son to the late Richard Parks, Sr. and Dora Donald Parks. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Willie Mae, Mae Frances, Lorenza, Elizbeth, Ludelia, and Leanna.

Richard attended Generostee Community School. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Generostee Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Mason Lodge in Anderson SC.

Richard, at the age of 21 years, joined the United States Army in January of 1951, where he was an Engineer Equipment Mechanic. He was a member of the CE Third Army where he was trained at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC and was stationed in Germany.

After his return to the States, Richard met and married his beloved wife, Martha Clinkscales on June 21, 1955. To this union, five children were born.

He had a long, successful career at J.P. Stevens Appleton Plant in Anderson, SC. He worked his way up from outside duties at the facility to becoming a supervisor of Shipping and Receiving. He retired from the plant after 32 years of service.

Richard (so passionately called Dad, Papa, and Uncle Richard) leaves to continue his legacy and cherish his memory: his wife Martha; four sons, Richard W. Parks (Barbara) of Blythewood, SC, George W. Parks (Ruby) of Augusta, GA, Charles W. Parks (Latanya) of Redwood City, CA, Gregory W. Parks (Phaedra) of Atlanta, GA; one daughter, Lee Parks-Murray of Summerville, SC; six grandchildren: Perry Parks (Katie), Sonni Williams (Bryson), Mercurii Parks, Phoenix Parks, Exodus Parks, and Hunter Murray; and four great-grandchildren: Boaz, Lola, Zoren, and Lazarus; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 10, 2023 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home.  Public viewing will be held on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.  The interment will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023 at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
