Rev. Robert Calvin (RC) Simmons, Jr.

Rev. Robert Calvin Simmons, Jr. was born October 31, 1946, in Anderson, SC. He departed this life on January 26, 2023, at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital. Rev. Simmons is the son of the late Mr. Robert Calvin (R.C.) Simmons, Sr., and the late Mrs. Melleane Kay Simmons. He gave his life to Christ at an early age. He acknowledged his calling by God to preach the gospel at the age of thirty-four and was licensed to the Gospel Ministry in March 1981 by the New Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, Piedmont, SC. On January 30, 1984, Rev. Simmons became the Pastor of his home church, Trinity Baptist Church, where he has been pastoring for thirty-nine years. In February 1984, he was ordained to the Gospel Ministry by Union #1 of Rocky River Baptist Association, Anderson, SC. Rev. Simmons has devoted his life to do the will of God and he loves to preach the word of God.

Rev. Simmons was a graduate of Westside High School (1964) in Anderson, SC. He furthered his studies and graduated from Morris College School of Religion Extension Unit, Greenville, SC; and NJ Brockman School of Theology, Greenville, SC.  Rev. Simmons retired from John D. Hollingsworth Company and Sirrine Elementary in Greenville, SC.  Rev. Simmons became a member of the Holly Springs Masonic Lodge #150, Pelzer SC, in December 1983.

Rev. Simmons leaves to cherish his memories: the mother of his three children, Bobbie Ann Cook Simmons; a daughter, Bathsheba (Evan) Mack of Gaston, SC; a son, John (Melanie) Simmons of Apopka, FL; two brothers, Joe (Wanda) Simmons of York, SC and Samuel (Jannie) Simmons of Fayetteville, GA; two sisters, Melleane (James) Conyers of Upper Marlboro, MD, and Vicky Simmons of Fountain Inn, SC; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces who he loved and they called him “Uncle Bay”; a longtime friend Brenda Oliver; and many dear cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son Robert Timothy Simmons; a grandchild, Khalil Timothy Simmons; one brother Columbus Fretwell Simmons; and two sisters, Sheila Diane Saunders and Velvia Antroy Biggs.

The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.  The interment will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
