Nellie Mae Cowan was born in Anderson, SC on August 27, 1959 to the late Betty Jean Mackey and Harvey Norris. She departed this life on March 26, 2026 at the age of 66 at AnMed Health Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by Clarence Sloan, her loving companion for 25 years.
Nellie Mae was well known on the southside of Anderson for her kindness. She would help anyone in need. You would often see her sitting on the porch waving and speaking to everyone that passed by. She deeply loved and cared for her family. If you ever stopped by the house, you knew Nellie liked to have a good time playing cards and dancing with family and close friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving daughter, Betty Tecora Harris (Jessie Frazier); three grandchildren, Niyheem Calhoun, Caiden Allen, and Ava Andrews; eleven sisters; eleven brothers; two aunts, Catherine Woods and Doris Jefferson; two uncles, Bobby L. Cowans and Jim Norris; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2026 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home. The interment will follow at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery. Public viewing will be held Thursday from 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
