This humbled man, Nathaniel Danny Leverette better known as "Sweet Daddy", gained his Heavenly wings on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at Callie and John Rainey Hospice House.
Nathaniel was a loving husband to Jennie V. Mattress Leverette for forty-seven years, the loving father of Casaundra, Rico, and Shawn, an adoring grandfather to his grandchildren, and a caring brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend.
Nathaniel was born on January 27, 1952 to Jessie "Tap" Boston and Jimmie Lou Leverette in Anderson County, South Carolina. He graduated from Westside High School in 1969. Upon high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. A few years after receiving an honorable discharge, Nathaniel started his professional career at Michelin Tire in Sandy Springs, SC. While working, he attended Forest Junior College, was a little league baseball coach for the Anderson Recreation Center and Starr/Iva leagues, and was a referee for the South Carolina High School League and The South Carolina Basketball Officials Association District #10.
Nate was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Starr, SC. He was a member of the male chorus and other organizations. After retiring from Michelin Tire in 2018 after 47 years of service, Nate decided retirement was boring and began working part-time at Auto Zone. Sweet Daddy was loved and respected by so many. He always wore a smile, gave encouraging words and you would always see him wearing a baseball cap.
He will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Jennie V. Mattress Leverette; daughter, Casaundra Letitia Cruell; sons, Rico Leverette, and Elder Shawn Vincent (Andrea) Mattress all of Anderson, SC; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a special aunt, Juanita Leverette of Anderson, SC; three sisters, Jo Eva Smith, Wilhelmina Johnson, Vivian (Doug) Breazeale all of Anderson, SC; and two brothers, Barry (Angela) Johnson of Anderson, SC and Ralph (Denise) Johnson of Columbia, SC. He will also be missed by his loving sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jimmie Lou Johnson; father, Jessie "Tap" Boston; grandparents, Clinton and Loanie Leverette, and one sister, Susan Boston Gray.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. The interment will be held on at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2023 at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery. Public viewing Thursday from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
