Gladys Glenn Jr., affectionately known as “Glenn,” departed this life on Sunday, March 30, 2025. Glenn was born July 3, 1932 in Anderson County. At a early age he joined Mount Carmel C.M.E. Church of Anderson. He was a proud 1949 graduate of Reed Street High School of Anderson.
He built a successful career with United Insurance Company of America where he worked from 1968 until his retirement in 1995. His hard work and dedication were recognized with numerous Certificates of Achievements, membership in the President’s Club and several Sales Representative of the year rewards. His walls are adorned with trophies that reflected his outstanding accomplishments. In addition to his professional career, he was a longtime vendor at the Anderson Jockey Lot, where he formed many lasting friendships.
He leaves behind cherished memories in the hearts of his loved ones, including his loving partner, Gracie Brown of Upper Marlboro; his daughter, Gwendolyn Glenn Banks (Gary) of Anderson; a bonus daughter Pamela Brown Perry(Tony) of Upper Marlboro; his grandson, Darrell McKenzie Sims (Shanessa Mattison) of Anderson; one bonus granddaughter Kamryn Perry of Upper Marlboro, three great-grandchildren, DeAsil, DeAnna and DeLasia Sims of Anderson; He is also survived by four sister-in-laws Inez Young Lewis of Maryland; Jessie Lee Glenn Phillips of Anderson; Unice Glenn Williams of Anderson; and Vera Glenn Davis of Anderson; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents Tugaloo Gladys Glenn Sr and Ethel McAdams Glenn, daughter Anna Eugenia (Gina) Glenn Sims, and his former wife Sara Alice Young Glenn.
He was also reunited in spirit with his six sisters; Frances Glenn Thomas, Daisy Mae Glenn Dennis, Eloise Glenn Fowler, Ethel Glenn Heard, Ophelia Glenn Young, and Lucille Glenn Robinson, as well as three brothers Robert Glenn, Eddie Glenn and Walter Glenn.
Glenn will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, devotion to family, and the kindness he shared with all who knew him. His memory will forever be a blessing.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home. The interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. Public viewing will be held Friday from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
