Mildred (Clinkscales) Johnson

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Mildred Clinkscales Johnson, age 82 on Friday, October 10, 2025. Mildred was born July 30, 1943, to Dottie and Mattie Lee (Brown) Clinkscales in Anderson County, SC. She spent much of her childhood years in Philadelphia, PA. At the age of 15, she returned to Anderson to live with her aunt and uncle, Ellen and Matthew Johnson.

Mildred graduated from Westside High School in 1961. After spending several years at South Carolina State University, she returned home and married her high school sweetheart, Walter Raleigh Johnson, Sr.

Mildred was a faithful and devoted member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities over the years. She spent most of her life working for Anderson School District Five, where she retired after more than 40 years of service.

She is survived by her three children, Gregory Lee Johnson (Perla) of Anderson, SC, Walter Raleigh Johnson, Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia and Kristal Johnson Montgomery (Ray) of Duluth, Georgia. She also leaves a sister, Bobbie J. Davis (Herman) of Philadelphia, PA and brother, Douglas L. Clinkscales (Beverly) of Roseville, California. She also leaves 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter R. Johnson, Sr., her parents, Dottie and Mattie Clinkscales, her aunt and uncle, Ellen and Matthew Johnson and granddaughter, Kiara L, Johnson.

The funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 in the Ollie Robinson Memorial Chapel of the Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home. The interment will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery. Public viewing will be held Monday from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
