Matthew Paul Maxwell

Matthew Paul Maxwell, age 57, of Anderson, SC was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 28, 1967.  He transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home on April 8, 2025 at AnMed Health.

Matthew was born to the late Erskine Reid Maxwell and the late June Stevens Maxwell.  He attended Jamaica High School in New York and Tri-County Technical College in Pendleton, SC.  He served in the National Guard Army.  He was employed by Walgreens Distribution Center in Williamston, SC for 16 years.  He attended Rocky River A.M.E. Church.  He enjoyed cooking.  His favorite dish was curry chicken.

Matt as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, was a sports fanatics.  He loved football, basketball, and baseball.  During his younger years, he played baseball.  Some of his favorite teams were the Brooklyn Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, and the New York Gaints.  His #1 team was the Clemson Tigers....GO TIGERS!!!

He is survived by his loving wife, Jacqueline Valentine-Maxwell of Anderson, SC; sons, Keith Kay of Anderson, SC and Antonio Oglesby of Greenville, SC; two granddaughters; one stepdaughter, Jada A. Bates; two step-granddaughters, Xiomara and AshLynn; one sister, Elizabeth Ann Maxwell (Patrick) Jones of Seneca, SC; one brother, Karl Erskine Maxwell of Tamarac, FL; one niece, Natahsa Maxwell; one nephew, Erick La'Salle Maxwell; one sister-in-law, Zelma (Dennis) McAdams; and a host of relatives and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Erskine Reid Maxwell and June Stevens Maxwell; one brother, Kenneth Edward Maxwell; paternal grandparents, James Maxwell and Anna Reid Maxwell; maternal grandparents, Edward B. Stevens and Rachel Stevens; and his in-laws, Robert and Dorothy Aiken Valentine.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2025 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home.  Public viewing will be held Wednesday from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
