Marvin Wright Obituary

Retired SFC Marvin Wright Obituary

Marvin Wright, a wonderful husband, and father whose presence brought joy to the lives of many, peacefully passed away at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, South Carolina, on May 24, 2024. Born on September 7, 1938, in Antreville, South Carolina, to proud parents David and Ruth Naomie Wright, Marvin's journey on this earth touched the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Marvin's life was marked by profound love and deep loss. He was preceded in death by his wife Macie Prince-Wright, and his parents. Marvin also mourned the passing of his siblings, David Wright, Robert Wright, Laurine Smith, and Annie Mae Wright.

Marvin was married for 63 years to his childhood sweetheart Macie Wright on September 2nd, 1961, and from that union they had five children: Tony Wright, Donnie Wright (Stacie), Marvin Wright (Juanita), Terri Wright, and Dorothea Wright Briggman (Kelvin). His legacy is continued through his eleven grandchildren: TJ, Matthew, Janae, Machaud, Sophie, Kristinia, Markus, Taryn, Jiya, Joi' Joshua, and Lauren. Marvin's love also extended to his three great-grandchildren, Ember, Oliver, and Levi, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends who held a special place in his heart.

Marvin's professional journey was one of dedication, perseverance, and love of country. He enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 19 where he was twice deployed during the Vietnam War. He served in many capacities while on active duty as both a paratrooper with the 82 nd Airbourne, a drill sergeant molding America’s newest soldiers, as well as administrative roles prior to retirement. Never content to rest on his laurels, he upon retirement from the Army, obtained a welding and automotive associate degree from Tri-County Tech. To all who knew him, he was a jack of all trades, and a wealth of knowledge on just about any subject. In 1987, he joined the SC Department of Corrections and served honorably for 14 years at Perry County Correctional Facility, where he earned the rank of sergeant. He was loved and respected by all he worked with and served.

During his free time, Marvin enjoyed fishing, in particular deep-sea fishing, working in his garden, making homemade wine from grapes grown on his vines, cooking meals from anything he could find in the refrigerator, and socializing with friends, family, and grandchildren.

Above all, Marvin will be remembered for his devotion to family and service. He was called at an early age to a life of service and completed his task in the twilight of his years. His family is better and stronger because of the unwavering support and love he gave to those he cherished, and his legacy of dedication and servitude will live on in the lives of those he molded.
