Margaret R. Valentine, known to her loved ones as "Mot" or "Aunt Mot", 95, of Jamaica, NY transitioned from this earthly side to be with her heavenly Father on March 25, 2025 at the Jamaica Hospital Nursing Home in Jamaica, NY.
She was born May 13, 1929 to the late Wallace Valentine, Sr. and Octavia McGrier Valentine. She attended Due West High School in Due West, SC and later attended a two year college in North Carolina. At an early age, she joined St. Mary Baptist Church in Due West, SC, where she was a member of the Choir, Usher Board, and Missionary Society. After leaving South Carolina and moving to New York, Margaret joined the Bethlehem Disciples of Christ Church in Queens, NY. She later moved her membership to 2nd Bethlehem Disciples of Christ Church under the leadership of former Pastor Francis Galloway also in Queens, NY. After joining she became an Usher and member of the Northeastern District Usher League. Pastor Galloway seeing her love for church and children upgraded her to Mother Valentine. Margaret enjoyed shopping at Lord & Taylor’s, Macy’s, and Burlington just to name a few.
She will be dearly missed by her son, Reynolds (Wanda) Valentine of Abbeville, SC; one grandson, Rashaun (Lauren) of Lugoff, SC; two great-grandchildren, Addison and Arden Valentine; five sisters, Mamie Valentine of Jamaica, NY, Alberta Miller of Donalds, SC, Lola Taylor of Honea Path, SC, Albertine Calloway of Due West, SC, and Mary Ann Hadden of Due West, SC; niece Cynthia Valentine Langston and great-niece Anjanell Langston-Knox (Daishawn) of Brooklyn, NY; God-daughter Lady Irene Boyd-Drain Moses and God-grandson Jason Drain both of Queens, NY and Dot Russell of NY; alongside a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Youmans, Johnnie R. Cunningham, and Hazel Smalls, and; two brothers, Wallace Valentine, Jr. and Robert Valentine; two nephews, Antonio Calloway and Eugene ‘Peewee’ Miller; niece, Zenobia ‘Munch’ Miller; great niece Lameka Frazier; two sisters-in-law, Prudence Valentine and Dorothy Valentine; and four brother-in-laws, Perryn Miller, Jimmie Cunningham, John R. Calloway, William Hadden, Sr., Chester Smalls, and J.T. Taylor.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2025 at St. Mary Baptist Church in Due West. The interment will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing Saturday from 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
