Margaret Ann Vance Cowans was born on March 20, 1957, in Anderson, South Carolina, to Bailous Vance, Jr. and Barbara Leslie Vance. She was employed for a number of years at LaFrance Industries and J.P. Stevens, where she was known as a dedicated and dependable worker.
Affectionately known as "Slim" by her family and friends, Margaret loved enjoying life and spending time with those she cherished. She was genuine in every sense of the word—what you saw was exactly what you got. She never pretended to be someone she wasn't and always spoke her mind with honesty. Beneath her straightforward nature was a heart of pure generosity. She would gladly give you the shirt off her back to help someone in need, and her kindness and loyalty left a lasting impression on everyone who knew and loved her.
She will be deeply missed by her parents, Bailous Vance, Jr. and Barbara Leslie Vance; her loving daughter, Rasheda Vance; sister, Patricia Vance Martin; brothers, Larry (Elizabeth) Vance, Richard Vance, Michael Vance, Bailous Vance, Thomas Vance, and Terrell Vance; her special friend, Edward Dudley; niece and nephews, Isis Lee, Dondriques Vance, Isaiah Vance, and Jayceon Randall; and numerous extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcell Cowans, Jr. and her grandparents, Bailous Vance, Sr., Claude and Nancy Smith.
The funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2026 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home. The interment will follow at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Wednesday from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m.
