Maggie Lee Clinkscales was born to Bunion and Alberta Thomas on January 5, 1931 in Starr, South Carolina. She grew up in Anderson, South Carolina in the post depression period surrounded by family and friends who nurtured her curiosity of life while she attended Reed Street School during her formative years. At an early age, she joined Generostee Baptist Church and faithfully attended with her family. As a teen, she diligently worked in Spartanburg, South Carolina processing oranges.
The former Maggie Lee Thomas later met and married her teenage sweetheart, Matthew Clinkscales, on April 26, 1951. This blessed union produced five children and they are as follows: Benjamin Clinkscales, Larry Clinkscales, Rev. James Clinkscales, Robert Clinkscales and Francine Holliday (Shirley Clinkscales, Heather-Ann Clinkscales and Evangelist Ruby Clinkscales are the spouses of Benjamin, Larry and Rev. James Clinkscales respectively). Maggie moved to New York with her husband and children in the spring of 1955 and enjoyed life there as her children grew and thrived. As a resourceful and strong parent, Maggie worked for many years in private domestic service as she and Matthew raised their children. An avid church attendee, she is one of the founding members of the East New York Seventh Day Adventist Church in the 1970’s and her service there included Usher, Deaconess, Community Service Worker, choir member until she relocated to Anderson, South Carolina in 2019.
Maggie Clinkscales departed this life on February 26, 2023 after a brief illness. The following family members left behind to mourn her memory are: her brother, Roy Lee Thomas (aka RL); sons, Benjamin Clinkscales (Shirley), Larry Clinkscales (Heather-Ann), Rev. James Clinkscales (Evamgelist Ruby), Robert Clinkscales and daughter, Francine Holliday; grandchildren are: Cicely Clinkscales, Matthew Clinkscales, Milton Clinkscales, Miles Clinkscales, Braden Holliday, Sheldon Holliday (Deceased), Isaac Nelson, Lamont Gooding, Precious Gooding. The great grandchildren are: Love Clinkscales, Taras Davis, Maisie Clinkscales, Nanette Clinkscales, Miles Clinkscales Jr. There are many nieces, nephews, great nephews, great nieces, and cousins too numerous to mention.
The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Generostee Baptist Church. The interment will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing Wednesday from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral service will be live-streamed from the Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home's Facebook page.
