On June 27, 1945, Lou Ella Lee Henry (Luella) was born in Starr, South Carolina to the late Benjamin Franklin and Flossie Ella Harris Lee.
Luella confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at Generostee Baptist Church, Starr South Carolina. Her stewardship commitment continued in Baltimore, Maryland as a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Church and Ministries over 45 years where she sang in the choir.
She attended the historic New Deal School in Starr, South Carolina and demonstrated her musical talent by playing the coronet in the New Deal Wildcat Marching Band. After graduation in 1962, she relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. Pursuing her passion for all things associated with beauty, she obtained her diploma in All Branches of Beauty Culture from Apex Beauty and Barber School on June 16, 1965. She was a highly accomplished and awarded hair stylist at Elise’s Chic Image and won numerous competitions at hair shows. She took pleasure in doing the hair of her mother, her sisters and her nieces every summer….even though she was supposed to be on vacation. After working for 57 years, she retired from doing hair, but continued to work at PBS television station for three more years.
Luella was called to her heavenly home for eternal rest with the Lord at 6:05am on Sunday, October 13, 2024. She was preceded in death by three brothers, William James Lee (Dorothy); Joe Thomas Lee (Tommie); George Jr. Lee; five sisters, Elsie (Broy) Williams, Lillian (Charles) Esau, Mattie Mae Lee, Mary Ruth Mills and Carolyn Diane Lee and one niece, Doris Jeanette Berry.
Continuing to cherish her memory are her husband, William Henry; two sisters, Gertrude Littlefield of Sacramento, California; Patricia (Clyde) Martin, of Anderson, South Carolina; one brother-in law, Charles K. Mills of Baltimore, Maryland; one aunt, Rosa Mae Clinkscales, Starr, South Carolina and numerous nieces, nephews and her beloved New Deal classmates.
A loving farewell celebration will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Mount Pleasant Church and Ministries, 6000 Radecke Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21206.
The service will be streamed on the church’s Facebook and You Tube pages. She will be interred at Arbutus Memorial Park, 1101 Sulphur Spring Rd., Baltimore, MD 21227.
