On June 27, 1945, Lou Ella Lee Henry (Luella) was born in Starr, South Carolina to the late Benjamin Franklin and Flossie Ella Harris Lee.

Luella confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at Generostee Baptist Church, Starr South Carolina. Her stewardship commitment continued in Baltimore, Maryland as a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Church and Ministries over 45 years where she sang in the choir.

She attended the historic New Deal School in Starr, South Carolina and demonstrated her musical talent by playing the coronet in the New Deal Wildcat Marching Band. After graduation in 1962, she relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. Pursuing her passion for all things associated with beauty, she obtained her diploma in All Branches of Beauty Culture from Apex Beauty and Barber School on June 16, 1965. She was a highly accomplished and awarded hair stylist at Elise’s Chic Image and won numerous competitions at hair shows. She took pleasure in doing the hair of her mother, her sisters and her nieces every summer….even though she was supposed to be on vacation. After working for 57 years, she retired from doing hair, but continued to work at PBS television station for three more years.
