Lillian Heard Obituary

Mrs. Lillian Dennis Heard, a devoted Christian woman whose faith and love for God guided every step of her journey, peacefully departed this life on her 92nd birthday, October 9, 2025.

Born in Iva, South Carolina, to the late Eliza Jane Adams Dennis and Ira Dennis, Sr., Lillian was deeply rooted in her faith and community. Throughout her life, she embodied grace, strength, and compassion, touching countless lives through her kindness, hospitality, and steadfast devotion to family and faith.

Lillian was a formidable woman, admired for her strength, generosity, and loving spirit. She opened her home to all, and it was often filled with laughter, love, and the aroma of her delicious home-cooked meals. Hosting family and friends brought her great joy, and she made everyone who entered her home feel valued and cared for. Above all, she was a praying woman, known for spending countless hours in communion with God — lifting up her loved ones and community in prayer.

She began her Christian journey at Wilson Creek I Baptist Church, where she developed a strong foundation of faith and service. Later in life, she joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, where she continued her lifelong commitment to serving the Lord. At Mt. Moriah, she was a proud and active member of the Sanctuary Choir, the Women’s Missionary Union (Circle Number Five), and the MMBC Sunday School Senior Class. She also served faithfully on the Hospitality Committee, ensuring that others felt welcomed and uplifted in God’s house.

Lillian shared a beautiful and blessed union with her beloved husband, Mr. Osby Heard. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and faith, sharing 60 wonderful years of marriage. Their partnership was one of true devotion and lasting love — a bond that stood as an example to all who knew them.

Beyond her home and church, Lillian dedicated many years of service to others through her work at Anderson Memorial Hospital, where she was a respected and compassionate employee until her retirement. Her care for others extended far beyond her professional duties, as she poured love and encouragement into everyone she met.

Lillian also had a passion for community involvement and music ministry. She proudly served as a member of the Community Workshop Choir of Anderson, South Carolina, and sang joyfully with the Union #I Choir of the Rocky River Baptist Association. Her rich, soulful voice and joyful spirit inspired all who heard her sing, and she used her gift of song to glorify God and uplift others wherever she went.

She was also a proud and faithful member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she served diligently for 67 years. She was a distinguished member of Iva Chapter #275 Order of the Eastern Star, PHA in Anderson, South Carolina, and Piedmont District #3 PHA. Throughout her years of service, she held numerous leadership roles, including Past Worthy Matron, Past Associate Matron, Past Treasurer, Past Electa, and Past Ruth. Her wisdom, faith, and sisterly love left a lasting impact on all who served alongside her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Osby Heard; her parents, Eliza Jane Adams Dennis and Ira Dennis, Sr.; two sisters, Minister Lelia Mae Hanks and Etrulia Russell; and five brothers, Ira Dennis, Jr., Dr. Douglas E. Dennis, Horace Dennis, Sr., Anzie Dennis, and Lawrence Dennis.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her two devoted sons, Osby Raleigh Heard and Nelson Eugene Heard; three beloved grandchildren, Chanel Webb, Tanecia Heard, and Keldrick Heard; and two grandchildren by marriage, Edwenia Lewis and Shayla Earle Wiley. She is also survived by her loving siblings, Morris (Geneva) Dennis, Albert Dennis, and Dianne Martin. Lillian is remembered with love by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, church members, and dear friends who were all blessed by her faith, warmth, and larger-than-life spirit.

Mrs. Lillian Dennis Heard lived boldly, loved deeply, worked faithfully, and prayed fervently —leaving behind a legacy of faith, strength, and service that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” — Matthew 25:21
