Mr. Leroy Gay peacefully departed this life Monday, February 6, 2023 at Condor Health-Anderson. He was born March 27, 1935 to the late Frances and John Gay.
Leroy retired from Owens Corning Fiberglass with 30 years of service as an HVAC Operator. He was a well-known black entrepreneur in Anderson. He was the owner and operator of Lewis Street Auto Service and Towing, the owner of Gay's Grocery, and the owner of Roynassa Restaurant and Game Room. He also owned several rental houses.
He was a former member of Wilson Creek Baptist Church #2 and later joined Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Leroy was a hard-working person with a good heart. He was a well-known friend in the community. The best part about him was that he was a good provider to his family.
Leroy leaves to cherish his brother, Robert Gay of Philadelphia, PA; his seven kids, Brenda Gay, Alwonder Walker (Anthony) both of Anderson, SC, Elizabeth G. Jones, Patricia Woodfork both of Lawrenceville, GA, Leroy Gay, Jr. (Marcellina) of Bloomfield, CT, Marcus Gay (Felicia) and Chris White (Chuki) both of Anderson, SC. He was a loving grandfather of ten grandchildren, Asa Perry of Atlanta, GA, Danesha Lawson (Jamier), Tiffany Blackwell both of Simpsonville, SC, Whitney Gay, Sokoya Gay, Zyria Gay, Damarcus Gay, Tia White all of Anderson, SC, Sharae Walker of Charlotte, NC, Darryl Jones of Lawrenceville, GA, and Mackenzie Gay of Bloomfield, CT. He also leaves to cherish his memory, five great-grandchildren, Treyson Lesley, Airess Samples, Jabari Lawson, Briea E Charles all of Simpsonville, SC, and Weshawn Airline of Anderson, SC; an adopted daughter, Marie Vance; and a host of relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Gay; one daughter, Neva Gay; one sister, Irene Gay; two brothers, Nathaniel Gay and Willie Frank Gay; two sons-in-law, Don Woodfork and Daryl Jones; and two nieces, Jacqueline Kemp and Nadine Howard.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. The interment will follow at Wilson Creek Second Baptist Church. Public viewing Friday from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
