Lee Morn Peterson, 84, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, at AnMed Health Medical Center. He was born on August 11, 1941, in Anderson, South Carolina, the second child of Eskew Peterson, Sr. and Mary Lou Wardlaw Peterson. At a young age he relocated to Long Island, New York, where he spent several years before returning home Anderson, South Carolina.
From an early age, his life was connected to his faith. He grew up attending Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Anderson, South Carolina and began singing at just seven years old. His powerful voice remained a constant presence throughout his life, and he was beloved as a soloist whose music touched many hearts.
His love for people shone through in everything he did. He worked with the Boys and Girls Club of Long Island, NY where he was known for his kindness and encouragement toward the youth. Over the years, he held a variety of jobs, including positions with Michelin Tires and salesman for Ralph Hayes Toyota, where his loving personality made him a natural fit.
He was both a gifted athlete and a vibrant member of his community. As an avid semi-professional baseball player, he played the position of short stop earning the nickname “The Vacuum Cleaner” for his ability to scoop up balls with lightning speed. He was also a pro bowler, who rolled three perfect games—a testament to his skill and dedication.
More than anything, he made friends everywhere he went. Known for his charm and warm spirit, he delighted in sharing laughter and wisdom with those around him. He often reminded others of his two favorite sayings: “A little bit of something is better than a whole lot of nothing,” and “You are a bad motor scooter.”
He will be remembered as a man of great talent, joy, and great generosity, who lived a full life that, touched countless people.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Laraine Peterson; his children and grandchildren; his brother, Eskew Peterson, Jr.; and his sister, Queen Ford.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Ray Peterson.
The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Salem Missionary Baptist Church. The interment will follow in the church cemetery.
