Mrs. Kizzy Mae Mattress was born January 14, 1936 in Lake City, South Carolina. She peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, February 15, 2025.
Kizzy was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. She was an active member of the missionary society until her health declined. She worked for a number of years at Anderson Memorial Hospital, Kennedy Head Start, and private care. Kizzy loved to cook, especially fried chicken and fish. She made the best okra and tomato soup. In her spare time she planted flowers and canned vegetables from her garden.
She will be dearly missed by her two daughters, Betty Groves and Cathy Mattress, twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, six nieces, two nephews, and a host of cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roosevelt Mattress, Sr.; parents, Walter and Mildred M. McClam; two daughters, Margaret Mattress Lee and Mary Mattress; one son, Roosevelt Mattress, Jr.; one grandson, Nickolus Mattress; one sister, Rose McClam; two brothers, Joe Lewis McClam and Walter McClam; one sister-in-law, Gertrude McClam; and one niece.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. The interment will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing Friday from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
