Katherine Williams Byrd

Katherine Williams Byrd of 212 William Walker Road in Anderson, SC, was called by the Lord into His Kingdom on September 22, 2023 after a brief illness.

She graduated from ACTS (Anderson County Training School) in May of 1951.  Katherine relocated to Chicago, IL and lived there for many years until her retirement from the University of Illinois.  After retiring, she returned back to Anderson, SC and became a devoted member of New Holly Light Missionary Baptist Church.  She served proudly on the Usher Board and was a member of the Homing Pigeons Club until her health declined.

Katherine was born April 7, 1933 to the late Reuben and Teresa Walker Williams.  She was the oldest of ten children.  She was preceded in death by five sisters, Lena, Ruby, Bertha, Jannie, and Peggy; and one brother, Bennie.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Albert Byrd.

She leaves to cherish her memories, two sisters, Margaret Simmons of Brooklyn, NY and Katie Taylor of Philadelphia, PA; two brothers, Johnnie R. Williams (Jennifer) and Grendel Williams (Caroline) both of Anderson, SC; one sister-in-law, Lois Williams of Washington, DC; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and close friends.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 2023 at New Holly Light Missionary Baptist Church.  The interment will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens.  Public viewing Sunday from 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
