Joyce Thompson Obituary

Mrs. Joyce Ann (Hester) Thompson , age 68, of Anderson,SC, entered into eternal rest to be with her Heavenly Father on September 11, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on March 9, 1957, to the late Nellie Mae Bowman and the late Dan Lewis Bowman, Joyce lived a life filled with faith, love, and laughter.

From an early age, Joyce’s faith was rooted in her church life. She first attended Hollycreek Baptist Church, later worshiping with Kingdom Vision Ministries and Pleasant Grove. Her love for God and her family guided her throughout her journey.

Joyce was a woman of many joys. She loved fishing, playing bingo, cards, watching westerns, and laughing. She will be remembered for her warm spirit, sense of humor, and the way she poured love into her family and community.

Joyce’s greatest joy was her family. She lovingly raised three of her grandchildren as her own, with the help of her fiancé, James Jones. Together, they poured their hearts into them, and those children were truly the light of her life. Joyce deeply loved and cherished them, and that love will forever remain in their hearts.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted fiancé, James Jones; her only son, Joe (Pamela) Bowman. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, De’Angelo Alexander (Ka’Tyggie), LaQuisha (Ra’Jon) Sanders, Jaheim Bowman, Kaliyah Bowman (Jason), and Caleb Poole; and great-grandchildren, Brevin Sanders and Santiago Mondragon. Her love continues through her sisters, Lula Mae Chamblee, Barbara Rogers (Kenny), Mattie Willingham (Manuel), Elizabeth Baskin (Larry), and Gracie Brown; her brother, Robert Hester; her sister-in-law, Theresa Skelton; and her best friends, Jessie Philips & Brenda.

Joyce also helped raise her great nieces Keasha McIntosh and Shaniyah McBride; her nephews Kinta Willingham, RoJay Hester, and BJay McBride; and her great-nephews Caiden Hester, Knowledge Hester, and Jaquez Willingham. Her bond with her special niece, Remingtyn Hester, and her special cousins, Aimee Gray and Kater June, was unbreakable. She also shared a deep bond with Jennifer Hall, and Sarah Gray, all very special people in her life. And she leaves behind a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nellie Mae Bowman and Dan Lewis Bowman; her grandparents, Moriah Davis, Chick Hester, Lucinda Bowman, Elmer Bowman, and Pearl Hester; her son, Christopher Thompson; sisters, Nellie Ann Bowman, Rosella McBride, Brenda Hall, and Irene Paul; her brother, George Hester; her brother-in-law, George David “Coon” Willingham, Larry McBride and Stanford Chamblee.

Joyce’s legacy of love, laughter, strength, and faith will live on in all who knew her.
