The sun rose in Anderson, South Carolina on July 9, 1949 bringing with a new day a beautiful baby girl born to Juriah Telford and Louise Glen Telford. They named her Joyce Dianne Telford.
She joined Mount Carmel C.M.E. Church at an early age. Later as an adult, she reunited with Mt. Carmel, to start her walk with the Lord. Diane loved her missionary work. In her ministry, she wore many hats: working with the youth, Sunday school teacher, and a van driver that carried the youth to meetings in state and out of state, hosted summer camp, a stewardess, a missionary, various office roles, secretary, vice president, and president in the local church for 10 plus years. She also held office at different times on the local, district, and annual conference levels. She was a zone leader for the Charleston/Columbia District for many years.
She met and married her high school sweetheart, Charles Acker Jr. on March 2, 1968. To this union, three sons were born, Timothy Acker, Kevin Acker, and Charles Acker III; eight grandchildren, Zakeitta & Morrio Acker were raised in the home, Tyler Cobb , Jamari Tryce, Malik Acker, Malezja Acker, Daeshun Acker, and Jordyn Acker; six great-grand children, Jaylain Acker, Zamarria Acker, Zamora Acker, Zanahary Acker, Zhurie Acker, and Zoë Acker.
Diane also leaves fond memories to her sisters, Clara Burriss, Lillie Telford, Robina Woods, and Mildred Telford; one brother, Timothy (Priscilla) Wilkins; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Willie "Frankie" Latimer and Patricia Watt; one brother, Robert Telford; and her stepfather, Joe Henry Wilkins.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2025 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home. The interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. Public viewing will be held Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
