Mrs. Jonnie Mae Wall Gambrell was born in Anderson County, South Carolina on December 4, 1930 to John Henry and Easter Cowan Wall. She went home to her heavenly father on October 27, 2024.
Jonnie Mae was a proud member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and a dedicated member of Circle #1 (now called the Women's Missionary). She was also a member of the Pulpit Aide and Flower Club. Before her health declined, you would see her walking down the church aisle in her beautiful hats and matching suits.
In the mid-1990s, Jonnie Mae retired from Anderson Memorial Hospital after many years of service. When she was not working or at church, she loved to cook, watch soap operas, and talk on the phone. Her favorite hobby was sending birthday cards. She always wanted people to know just how special they were to her.
Her warm smile and pleasant voice will be missed dearly by her family, church members, and friends. She is survived by her two sons, Larry Gambrell and Donnell Gambrell; two grandsons, Brian Robinson and Alex Gambrell; loving great-grandchildren; one sister, Tommie White; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Gambrell; parents, John and Easter Wall; daughter, Canary Gambrell; son, Joe Nathan Gambrell; five sisters, Josephine Wall, Letha Anderson, Carol James, Doris Humphrey, and Ruthell James; and one brother, Johnny Claude Wall.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. The interment will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Saturday from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
