Mr. John Jacob Haskell Latimer was born at Anderson Memorial Hospital April 19, 1937. He departed this life after a brief illness at Hospice of the Upstate Rainey Hospice House on May 5, 2026.
He was the son of Broadus and Grace McAdams Latimer. He received his early education through the public-school system of Abbeville County. He continued his education at South Carolina State College and received his Master of Education plus 30 hours from Clemson University. He followed his father as an entrepreneur and his mother as an educator having taught in public schools in the Abbeville, Greenwood and Anderson County School systems for over twenty-eight years. He was a veteran of the US Army.
Haskell, as he was known to family and affectionally known as “Lat” throughout the community, joined Springfield Baptist Church at an early age and served faithfully in many capacities until his health began to decline. He served as a Trustee and assisted in planning many special events such as “Men’s Day” and others.
Haskell was predeceased by his parents and his only sibling Henry Bernard Latimer. He leaves to cherish his memory his family James and Beverly McAdams of Anderson, SC and their children James Austin McAdams of Simpsonville, SC; India Elizabeth Rose McAdams of Easley, SC and John Mattison (Keora) McAdams of Piedmont, SC. And a host of extended relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family would be honored if you would consider making a charitable contribution in memory of Haskell to the Hospice of the Upstate Rainey Hospice House or a charity of your choice.
