James Carter Obituary

Mr. James Edward Carter, affectionately known as “Skeet” was born in Hartwell, Georgia on June 14, 1949 to Henry Carter Sr. and Cora Bowman Carter. He transitioned peacefully on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Richard M. Campbell Veteran’s Nursing Home. 

“Skeet” leaves to cherish his memory: one loving daughter, Zeneta “Zee” (Payson) Jones of Seneca, SC; five grandchildren: D’Maya Bent, Tamryn Bent, Helen Jones, John Jones, and Payson Jones; three sisters, Gloria Carter Craft of Anderson, SC, Jacqueline Thomas of Asbury Park, NJ and Barbara Peterson of Washington, DC; two brothers, Henry “Sonny” (Linda) Carter Jr. of Anderson, SC and Robert Reed of Washington, DC., many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, and family friends. 

He was predeceased by his parents; stepmother, Mary Reed Carter; one sister, Audrey Adams, three brothers, Erskine “Dickie” Carter, Stephen Carter, and John Reed.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 22, 2021 at M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

Friends may pay their respects here on the website with messages of condolences or with candle tributes.  The guest registry will be available to sign at the funeral home on Saturday, February 20, 2021 from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m.  There will be no public viewing.
