Hattie Ruth Paul, 83, of Iva, South Carolina, was called home to be with the Lord on March 27, 2025. Born on April 2, 1941, to Eddie and Sadie Martin. Hattie lived a life rich in faith, service, and love.
A devoted member of Flat Rock A.M.E. Church, Hattie served her community and congregation through many roles over the years. She was a class leader, missionary, senior choir member, Sunday school teacher, and an active participant in the Women’s Aid Society. Her dedication extended to roles on the stewardess board, hospitality committee, and as an usher. She was also a proud member of the Eastern Star organization.
Hattie leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory: her daughters, Annie Paul and Viola Paul; her sons, William E. Paul (the late Debra) and Randolph Paul; her five grandchildren, Lakenya Young, Eugene Paul, Jeremiah Paul, Kevin Neal, and Chloe Neal; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved sisters, Margaret McDowell (the late Wardell) and Sadie Williams (John), along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who were blessed to know her.
Preceding her in death were her devoted husband, William Lee Paul; her sisters, Edna Lucille Kay, Alice Rebecca Martin, and Angel Martin; her brothers, John H. Martin, Eddie Eugene Martin (the late Elease), Willie J.P. Martin, Leroy Martin (the late Amanda), Fred Martin (the late Brenda), and Wallace Floyd Martin.
She was loved by her in-laws, Frances Settles (Johnny), Floyd Paul (the late Beatrice), Enoch Paul (Betty), Benny Paul (the late Oletha), Iola Thomas (deceased) (David), and Betty Paul Taylor (deceased).
Hattie’s legacy is one of faith, compassion, and unwavering dedication to her family, friends, and community. Her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2025 at Flat Rock A.M.E. Church. The interment will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing Thursday from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
