Mr. George Sturgeon, Jr., was welcomed into the world on August 22, 1944. He was the beloved son of the late MaryLou Rucker and George Sturgeon, Sr. He went home to be with the Lord on December 6, 2025 at Rainbow Retirement and Assisted Living Home in Arnoldsville, Georgia.
George grew up in Hartwell, GA and was a devoted member of Flat Rock C.M.E. Church. He attended faithfully until his health began to decline. He was a proud graduate of Hart County Training School. George worked for Owens Corning Fiberglas for more than 30 years before retiring. He later continued serving his community through his work at North Hart Elementary School.
Known for his warm spirit and kind heart, George was loved by all who knew him. His gentle presence and the joy he shared with others will be deeply missed, but his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of family and friends.
He leaves behind one son, Tijuanna Heard of Hartwell, GA; two bonus daughters, Aletha Gillerson of Lavonia, GA and Yontreal Darby of Acworth, GA; two grandchildren, Te’Andre Heard of Statesville, NC and Tatiana Heard of Jersey City, New Jersey; two great-grandchildren; three siblings, Donald Sturgeon (Roxie) of Hartwell, GA, Mildred Sims (William) of Statesville, NC, and Annie Smith (David) of Washington, PA; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Horace Sturgeon.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2025 at Flat Rock C.M.E. Church in Hartwell, GA. The interment will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing Thursday from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
