George Hester, Jr.

Mr. George Hester, Jr., age 65, of Iva, SC, went home to His heavenly father on May 15, 2024.  He was born May 14, 1959 to the late George Washington Hall and Nellie Mae Bowman.

George joined Holly Creek Baptist Church at an early age and later joined Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.  June, as he was called by his family and friends, loved to say, "Do you understand".  He loved to watch Redd Foxx, Westerns, and Empire.

He is survived by his daughter, Adrian Turman; son, Charles Galloway; thirteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild; six sisters, Joyce Thompson (James), Mattie Willingham (Manuel), Elizabeth Baskin (Larry), Gracie Brown, Barbara A. Rogers (Kenny), and Lula Mae Chamblee all of Anderson, SC; two brothers, Robert L. Hester of Iva, SC and Joe D. Bowman (Pam) of Seneca, SC; sister-in-law, Theresa Skelton; one aunt, Sylvene Webb; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Carmencita Turman; two grandchildren, Ben Darious Turman and Keyondez Turman; four sisters, Rosella McBride, Nellie Ann Bowman, Brenda Hall, and Irene Paul; one brother, James Hall; stepfather, Dan L. Bowman; grandparents, Chick Hester, Moriah Smith-Davis; stepgrandmother, Lucinda Bowman; sister-in-law, Sharon Hall; brothers-in-law, Larry McBride, George D. Willingham, and Stanford Chamblee.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home. Public viewing Tuesday from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
