Gannie McDavid Obituary

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course,  I have kept the faith.”

II Timothy 4:7

On Tuesday, April 14, 2026, Deacon Gannie Lee McDavid , age 84, entered into his eternal heavenly home, surrounded by his family at Callie & John Rainey Hospice House.

Deacon Gannie Lee McDavid was born on May 31, 1941 to the late Mr. Frank McDavid, Sr and Mrs. Janie Lee McDavid. He was a graduate of Geer-Gantt High School, Class of 1961, after which he attended Forest College and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was employed with Owens-Corning Fiberglass for 37 years, and retired as a Quality Control Inspector.

A faithful and active member of Welfare Baptist Church, he dedicated his life to service in numerous capacities. This included his leadership on the Trustee and Deacon Boards, his tenure as chair of the Finance Committee, and his time as a Sunday School teacher. He was equally devoted to his volunteer work with the Brotherhood and  Community Outreach Ministry.

An avid bowler with the Anderson USBC Bowling League, Brother McDavid was honored with induction into the Anderson Bowling Association Hall of Fame in May of 2007. He was a devoted University of South Carolina football fan, proudly holding season tickets for 11 years. He also found great pleasure in following NASCAR as well as gardening and supplying vegetables to his family and neighbors. He cherished every moment spent with his family and friends.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Mrs. Drunelle Woods McDavid; his loving children: son Mr. Ray (Felisa) McDavid-Myrtle Beach, SC; daughter Dr. Yolita (Theodore) Oparah and grandsons Seth & Matthew Oparah-Fort Mill, SC.

He is also survived by his cherished siblings: sisters Ms. Eula Mae McDavid, Mrs. Helen (Emerson) Cooley-Anderson, SC; Mrs. Elvia Pendleton-Donalds, SC; and Mrs. Brijette (George) Norris-Anderson, SC; one brother, Mr. David (Shirley) McDavid-Anderson, SC; and a host of beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and friends.

Preceded in death by his cherished siblings Mrs. Janie Brown, Mr. Frank McDavid Jr, and Mr. Carl (Peggy) McDavid.
