Frank Vandiver, a beloved father, grandfather, mentor, and pillar of his community, passed away leaving behind a legacy defined by faith, family, hard work, and service. His life was a testament to resilience, devotion, and love, and his impact will be felt for generations to come.
Born to Tom and Claudine Vandiver, Frank was one of fourteen children and, in time, became the eldest living among them a reflection of his enduring strength and steadfast spirit. From an early age, he understood the value of family, a principle that remained at the heart of his life.
Frank shared a remarkable 62-year marriage with his beloved wife, Marianne Vandiver, until her passing in 2018. Their union was a shining example of love, commitment, and partnership, creating a foundation that continues to inspire all who knew them.
He was the proud father of two children, Hope and Stan (Chante), and his nurturing spirit extended far beyond. He played a vital role in raising his nephew, Terrence, and lovingly helped rear his grandchildren Rhonika, Monika, Daequan, Donovan, Denzel, and Deidre. Through his guidance, he instilled in them the enduring values of faith, perseverance, and integrity. He has three great grandchildren: Deiani Alayla Sullivan, Noah David Smalls, and Nia Sky Smalls; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Frank is survived by his living siblings Cynthia Hall (George), Fannie Hall, Rosemary Dill (Mike), George Vandiver (Linda), David Vandiver, and Anthony Vandiver. Deceased family members are Evelyn Mayes, Dorothy Jefferson, Clarence Vandiver, Claude Vandiver, Tommie Simmons, Willie Mae Hall, and Thomas Vandiver (Patricia).
A man of unwavering dedication, Frank served his community through his work with Anderson Memorial Hospital and North Carolina Mutual Insurance Company. He later became a proud two-time retiree, having given years of faithful service to Owens Corning Fiberglass and Anderson County School District 5. His commitment to labor and community was further demonstrated through his involvement with the Glass Bottle Blowers Association and the AFL-CIO, where he stood in solidarity with his fellow workers.
Faith was a cornerstone of Frank’s life. As a devoted member of Thompson Centennial United Methodist Church, he actively participated in the Centennial Voices and men’s choir and served faithfully on the trustee board. His contributions helped strengthen both the church and the broader community.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
