Obituary
Mrs. Estella Wheaton Quarles, age 83, of 2102 Refuge Rd., Pendleton, SC, the wife of the late James Pressley Quarles Sr., passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 20, 2023.
Estella was born in Anderson County to the late Ernest A. and LuEllen Hamilton Wheaton, on March 14, 1940. She was the youngest and the last surviving child of her parents.
Estella attended Anderson schools and graduated from Riverside High School in 1958. She furthered her studies in cosmetology in the early 1970s. She was a member of New Holly Light Missionary Baptist Church.
Nothing made her happier than loving her family. She loved cooking and feeding her family many specialty dishes. Her biscuits and fried chicken were two of everyone’s favorites. Mississippi Mud Cake was the cake we all loved to taste from her kitchen. She was married on December 20, 1964, to James Presley Quarles, the love of her life. To this union four sons were born, Anthony, James Presley Jr, Joseph, and John David Quarles.
She leaves behind to cherish fond memories to Anthony, Joseph, and John David Quarles (fiancé Brianna Robinson); Granddaughters: Jaddiah and Jasmine Quarles; Grandsons: Jonah Cleveland and Rod Swinger; sisters-in-law: Clara Wheaton, Phoebe Wheaton, Paulette (Ernie) Gaines, and Janie Pickens; brothers-in-law: Johnny Quarles, Robert (Terri), and Jesse (Sandra) Quarles; and special friend of the family, Daisy Mathis. She also leaves fond memories to many nieces/ nephews, great-nieces/nephews; great- great nieces/nephews; cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband James; son James Presley Jr. "PeeWee"; parents, Ernest and LuEllen Wheaton and siblings, Rosa Mae, Pauline, Ernest Albert, Charlie, Nelson, and Israel Wheaton; and one grandson, Elijah Cleveland.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at New Holly Light Baptist Church. The interment will follow at New Light Cemetery. Public viewing Saturday from 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
