Emma Doris (Miller) Brown

Emma Doris (Miller) Brown was born on June 9, 1942 to the late Van Miller and Minnie Ruth McGowan in a family that grew to include a total of seven children (three sons and four daughters). She attended schools in Anderson County including Westside High School and also briefly in Greenville County (Sterling High School).  She eventually graduated from Westside High School.

Emma was a long time resident of Pendleton, SC after marrying Lawrence Edward Brown.  She maintained a household there through many challenges, including the dissolution of her marriage, with the support of neighbors who became as close as family.  She was employed for many years as a weaver at JP Stevens and Co., a textile mill located in Clemson, SC which later became West Point-Pepperel.

After the closure of the plant, she later transitioned to a position as assembler at Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Co., Inc. in Liberty, SC.  She eventually retired from a long working career with this company.

Emma was a devoted and proud mother of two children, son Victor Maurice Brown (Sirikun Khuankhamnuan) of Charlotte, NC and daughter Angela Teresa (Brown) Navarro (Efrain Navarro; deceased) of Mauldin, SC.  She dedicated her life to being the best mother she could be for her children and making sure that they had a comfortable upbringing and quality education.

She was also a very proud grandmother of three grandsons; Trajan King Brown of Gainesville, GA; Jarod Emilio Navarro and Joshua Alejandro Navarro of Mauldin, SC and great-grandmother of a great-granddaughter, Kehlani Skye Brown of Peoria, IL.

She is survived by two of her sisters; Jennie Miller and Johnnie (Miller) Williams (John Williams) of Anderson, as well as a full, loving family of many cousins, nephews, nieces and in-laws.  She also leaves behind many dear friends who were deeply touched by her loyal friendship as much as she was by theirs.

Emma was preceded by four of her siblings who previously departed life on Earth; Solomon Miller, Evelyn Miller, Ernestine Miller and Leonard Miller Sr. of Anderson, SC.

Emma was a big Motown music fan all of her life.  She loved Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Stevie Wonder and especially The Temptations.  Her favorite song was My Girl by The Temptations.

She loved being outdoors and taking care of her yard and home as well as enjoying time sitting on her screened porch anytime during nice days and evenings.  These things brought her the most joy.

The service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2024 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home. The interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.  Public viewing will be held on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
