The sweet lady, Elizabeth Tate, better known as "Johnnie Mae", gained her heavenly wings on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Callie and John Rainey Hospice House.
Elizabeth was a loving mother to Adell Lverette, an adoring grandmother to her grandchildren and a caring sister, cousin and friend.
She was born on April 3, 1945 to James Henry Tate and Ruth Aikens Tate Edwards in Anderson County, South Carolina. She graduated from Westside High School in 1966. She was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Starr, SC and retired from the Anderson County Disabilities and Special Needs Board after 25 years of service.
She will be dearly missed by her loving son, Adell Leverette; six grandchildren, Jeramy Markee Wardlaw, Alandus Jamal Wardlaw, Princess Jerral Wardlaw, Brianna Shantell Leverette, Isaiah Malik Leverette and Malaysian Leverette; two brothers, Tommy Tate and Eugene (Sharon) Tate; and one sister, Mattie Tate. She will also be missed by her loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Ruth and Jimmy Lee Edwards, Jr.; father and step-mother, James Henry and Mary Helen Tate; and two brothers, Ernie Lee Edwards and John Paul Tate.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2023 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home.
