Eliston James Perry, affectionately known as Jimmy or Baby, was born on September 27, 1941, in Phenix City, Alabama, to the late Nathan and Mattie Gordon Perry. On September 24, 2025, just three days before his 84th birthday, Jimmy heard the Master’s call and peacefully entered his heavenly home to rest in the arms of the Lord.
At an early age, Jimmy left Phenix City and made his home in Rochester, New York. He worked faithfully for many years at Kodak and later retired from Sentry Safe. Jimmy was a devoted member of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where he served diligently as an usher until his health began to decline. He took great pride in serving in the house of the Lord and greeting others with his warm smile and humble spirit.
Even after retirement, Jimmy continued to let his light shine. He was a true servant at heart, always willing to lend a helping hand—whether it was taking elderly friends and neighbors to the grocery store, doctor’s appointments, or simply sharing words of encouragement. His kindness, faith, and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jimmy leaves to cherish his memory two loving daughters, Tameka Mitchell of Rochester, NY, and Nyleeche Perry of Anderson, SC; one devoted son, Kotei Putmam of Anderson, SC; five precious granddaughters, Shakinah Singleton and Shanquell Aiken of Rochester, NY, Zyeah Putmam, Trinitee Hardy, and Karmeela Putman of Anderson, SC; three grandsons, Kenterrious Perry of Columbia, SC, Kaiden Putmam of Charlotte, NC, and Kaevion Perry of Anderson, SC; two great-grandsons, Adam Close Jr. of Rochester, NY, and Rahzir Turner; one great-granddaughter, A’reilynn Trenton; one beloved sister, Annie Perry of Phenix City, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard Perry, Robert Perry, and Charlie Perry; and sisters, Louise Crawford, Geneva Crawford, and Martha Jones.
“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” – 2 Corinthians 5:8
Jimmy’s gentle spirit, loving heart, and unwavering faith in God will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him. Though he is no longer with us in body, his legacy of faith, service, and love will continue to shine as a light to all who follow.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home. The interment will be held at New Silver Brook Cemetery.
