Mrs. Dorothy Jean Aiken Valentine was born January 16, 1938 to the late James and Carrena Aiken. She departed this life surrounded by her family on November 3, 2024 at AnMed Health.
At an early age, she joined Rocky River A.M.E. Church, where she was a faithful member until her health declined. Dot served as a steward, a member of the missionary society, and a member of the kitchen committee. She was also a member of the Women's Aide Society #100.
Dot graduated from J.S. Wright High School in Abbeville, SC. She worked at Bigelow Sanford in Calhoun Falls for many years and later retired from Flexible Technologies in Abbeville, SC.
Dot was a loving kind and caring person. She loved her family, especially her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Dot or "Mama" as she was called mostly by everyone she met, didn't talk much but she loved everyone she came in contact with. She also loved to cook, travel, shop, go out to eat, work with her flowers, or be a mother figure. She will be truly missed.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Robert Valentine and through this union, two daughters were born. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Noah A. McAdams; sisters, Lou Delia Aiken, Esther Aiken, Patricia Aiken, Martha Ruth Aiken, and Carrie Jamison; brothers, John S. Aiken and Frank Wright (Janie); in-laws, Octavia and Wallace Valentine; sons-in-law, James Golatt and Rev. James Bates; sisters-in-law, Evangelist Frances Youman, Hazel Valentine, and Johnnie Ruth Cunningham; and one brother-in-law, Wallace Valentine (Prudence).
She leaves to cherish her fond memories; her daughters, Zelma V. McAdams (Dennis) and Jacqueline V. Maxwell (Matthew) all of Anderson, SC; granddaughter, Jada A. Bates of Anderson, SC; great-grandchildren, Xiomara T. Owens and AshLynn N. Owens both of Anderson, SC; two bonus grandchildren, Devin Beaty of Phoneix, AZ and Kiana Golatt of Anderson, SC; one sister, Ada Donaldson (Henry) of Antreville, SC; sisters-in-law, Mary Aiken of Antreville, SC, Mamie Valentine and Margaret Valentine both of Jamaica, NY, Alberta Miller of Due West, SC, Lola M. Taylor of Honea Path, SC, Albertine Calloway and Mary Ann Hadden both of Due West, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024 at Rocky River A.M.E. Church. The interment will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Thursday from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
