Dorothy Fant Obituary

Dorothy L. Latimer Fant, lovingly known as “Dot,” was born on February 20, 1943, in Anderson County, South Carolina, to the late Cleven and Rosella Sullivan Latimer. She peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on April 17, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and unwavering dedication to her family, church, and community.

Dot was raised in Starr, South Carolina, where she accepted Christ at an early age and joined Generostee Baptist Church. She graduated from New Deal High School in 1962. On March 17, 1963, she married Johnnye Joe Fant and later moved her membership to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. There, she faithfully served as a devoted Deaconess and an active member of Circle #2, now known as the Women’s Ministry. She served as secretary of the Deaconess Ministry until her health began to decline and also served as secretary of Circle #2 for many years. Her commitment extended across numerous church committees, where her diligence and determination made a lasting impact.

In the 1980s, Dot founded the Tom Thumb Wedding, a creative and highly successful fundraiser that significantly contributed to the church’s building fund for many years. Known for her determination, she approached every task with unmatched dedication. When she set a goal, she pursued it wholeheartedly—and if she asked for support, she had a remarkable way of ensuring success.

Dot was Past Commandress, Past Recordress, and one of the Founding Members of AZZAM COURT 184, Auxiliary of the A.E.A.O.N.M.S. Inc., PHA.  Dot was also a proud member of IVA CHAPTER 275 Order of the EASTERN STAR Rite of Adoption for the State of South Carolina and Jurisdiction, PHA.  Throughout her years of service she has held many roles including, Past Worthy Matron, Past Associate Worthy Matron, Past Conductress, and Past Secretary, which was the position she cherished most.

Her professional journey included working at Brendle’s, Senior Solutions, and serving her community as a school crossing guard with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.

Dot was truly one of a kind. She lived boldly and authentically, never afraid to speak her mind and always ready to bring laughter to those around her. Her spirited personality, sharp wit, and warm heart left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Savitri D. Fant; her son, Mitchell Drewayne Fant; daughter-in-law, Lasheral Odom Fant; four grandchildren, Lakisha R. Fant (Antonio) Hatten, Casimi E. Allen, John Terry A. Fant, and Laddrick Odom Fant; five great-grandchildren, Nowledge Hatten, Nigeria Hatten (Jose) Carvallo, Kanajhi Hatten, Serenity Hatten, and Avia Hatten; one sister, Shirley (Melvin) Green of Anderson, SC; three brothers, Melvin (Nettie) Latimer of Columbia, SC, David (Mary) Latimer of Anderson, SC, and Wayne Latimer of Oakland, CA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Johnnye Joe Fant; her parents, Cleven and Rosella Latimer; her mother-in-law, Johnnie Ruth Crosby; her son, Johnnye Anthony Fant; her granddaughter, Shameka C.
