With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we celebrate the life of Demettrius Rashad Johnson, who departed this life on June 28, 2026.Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in remembering a man whose laughter filled every room, whose love knew no bounds, and whose presence made life brighter for everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Born to the late Cathy Johnson and Windell Greenlee, Demettrius was also preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, George D. and Marie Hunter Johnson, and his uncle, Kenneth Johnson.
A graduate of Pendleton High School, Demettrius continued his education at Tri-County Technical College, where he earned his degree before building a career as a skilled welder with Vertiv. He believed in working hard, providing for those he loved, and taking pride in doing a job well.
Above all, Demettrius was a devoted father. His children were his greatest source of pride and one of his life's greatest blessings: Dametrius Johnson of Anderson, Damia Johnson of Anderson, Tariq Johnson of Pendleton, Rashad Johnson of Pendleton, Camron Johnson of Seneca, and Jamari Johnson of Pendleton. Becoming "Papa" to his beloved grandchildren, Zolani Pitts and Harmony Johnson, brought him a special kind of joy that only they could.
He leaves to cherish his memory his siblings: Lakeisha Johnson of Reston, Virginia; Valarie (John) Freeman of Pendleton, SC; Terrell (Karita) Johnson of Atlanta, GA; Ashley Patterson of Anderson, SC; and Angel (Kevin) Scott of Columbia, SC. He also leaves behind his special friend, Stephanie Gibbs of Anderson, SC; his beloved aunts, Mamie Williford and Bonnie Hunter; Zamarea Hamond of Seneca, whom he reared as his own; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and countless friends who loved him dearly.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026 at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Sandy Springs, SC. The interment will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be Thursday from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
