On March 25, 2022 Catherine Eliza (Vernon) Angus passed away at the age of 89 years old. She was born in Foga, the bauxite rich mineral district in Clarendon, Jamaica West Indies, to James and Leadora Vernon. She was preceded in death by Egerton Angus, one son, Granville Angus and eight siblings.
Catherine was affectionately called mama by her children and Auntie Kathleen, Auntie Kath by her close relatives and friends. She leaves behind to mourn seven children who loved her dearly. Four sons, Barrington, Michael, Radcliffe, (Ann-Marie), Patrick (Arline), Three daughters, Marjorie, Camellia (James), Sheron (Norman), 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grand children.
Auntie Kathleen attended school in the beautiful Parish of Clarendon. She was a house wife for many years and supervised her children's education through the different stages of their development. She also pursued her own educational goals, in Home Economics and Early Childhood Education. She was a consistent parent volunteer and children advocate at The Harbour View Primary School in St Andrew, Jamaica West Indies. Catherine migrated to the United States where she continued her early childhood educational goal and worked as preschool assistant teacher in Boston Massachusetts.
Catherine was an active member of The Harbour View Seventh-day Adventist Church in Jamaica West Indies prior to her migration to The United States where she served as a deaconess and a choir member. After her migration, Catherine attended The Berea Seventh-day Adventist Church, Boston Massachusetts. She later became a member of The Calvary Seventh-day Adventist Church in Bridgeport Connecticut. Prior to her passing she attended The North Anderson Church, Anderson First, and the Maranatha Seventh-day Adventist Churches until her passing in South Carolina.
She will be missed by all her children, grandchildren, great-grand children, relatives and all who knew her, some of whom will gather at the Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home, on April 14, 2022 at 10:00 am to celebrate her life and to say goodbye. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. The interment will follow the funeral service at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
Public viewing will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at the funeral home.
