Brenda Ophelia Thompson was born on August 19, 1944, in Anderson, South Carolina, to the late Johnnie and Mamie White. She peacefully transitioned from this life on November 8, 2025, in Anderson, South Carolina.
Brenda was a proud graduate of Westside High School, Class of 1962. She was united in marriage to the late Matthew Thompson, Jr., and together they lovingly raised their son, Keith Thompson, and her daughter, Gwenette White.
She began her career with Wamsutta Mills, where she worked faithfully until her retirement. Later, she came out of retirement to serve with Anderson School District Five, where she remained until her final retirement.
Brenda was a devoted lifetime member of Evergreen Baptist Church. She made history as the church’s first female trustee, serving honorably as secretary—a role she held with great pride. Her service also extended to the Usher Board, Culinary Department, Missionary Society, and as a Matron (YWA). Brenda loved serving the senior citizens of her community. She was also an avid baker and took great joy in preserving and making homemade jellies.
In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew Thompson, Jr.; and siblings Broadus, Leslie, Rochella, John Edgar, Eaner, and Francine. She was the last of the White legacy.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her daughter, Gwenette White, and son, Keith Thompson; grandchildren China Nance of Greenville, South Carolina, and Rhemadi, Milana, and Corbin Thompson of Anderson, South Carolina; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and devoted friends.
Brenda’s life was one of love, service, and faith—a legacy that will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
The funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2025 at Evergreen Baptist Church. The interment will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing Thursday from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Gwenette White, 1606 W. Market Street, Anderson, SC 29624.
