Barbara Elaine Kennedy Dixon

The sweet spirit of Barbara Elaine Kennedy-Dixon went home to be with our Lord on Monday morning July 23, 2018.  She was born to Nannie Johnson Kennedy and Henry Clayton Kennedy in San Diego, California on January 19, 1960.

Barbara attended public schools in Rome, GA and graduated from East Rome High School in 1978.  After scoring an impressive 62 points in a high school game, her jersey was retired.  Barbara came to Clemson University as a highly recruited athlete and quickly establish a legacy for herself as a dominant force in the ACC.   She was an All American 1981-1982: NCAA Scoring Champion 1981; ACC Rookie of the Year 1979; All ACC, 1982; US National Team 1982 to name a few accolades.  She was the first female to have a retired jersey (#42) at Clemson University; Clemson Hall of Fame Inductee-1989 and Clemson Ring of Honor Inductee-2000.  She earned many other awards and honors during her wonderful athletic career at Clemson.

Barbara graduated Clemson University in 1983, played basketball in Italy for a year and came back to Clemson as an employee of Clemson University Athletic Department for over 30 plus years.  She retired in 2015 to spend time with her family and friends. Barbara loved her time at Clemson University and never considered it work.  She was in her element when she was surrounded by the students and staff.   

She married Marvin S. Dixon on May 27, 1989. To this union, two children were born, Marvin Jalen and Jasmine Elaine.  The family joined the New Holly Light Missionary Baptist Church, where Barbara served faithfully in many capacities.  

She leaves to cherish her memories her loving, devoted husband, Marvin Dixon, her son, Marvin Jalen, and her beautiful daughter, Jasmine Elaine.  Sisters, Yvonne Morgan and Natalie (Bernard) Springer, Anderson, SC; Patricia (Louie) Tollerson, Charleston, SC; Brothers, John F. Kennedy, Columbia, SC; Keith (Danisha) Kennedy, Anderson, SC; Mary Louise Dixon, mother in-law, Raymond Dixon, father-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, relatives and friends. 

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Clemson United Methodist Church (300 Frontage Road Clemson, SC).  The interment will follow at New Silverbrook Cemetery in Anderson SC.

The family is at the home, 116 Moorehaven Drive Liberty, SC.
