Anthony Lewis Houston, 54, of Goose Creek, SC passed away on Saturday, September 18th, 2021. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Tonya, of 27 years and two sons, Caleb and Micah.
Anthony was born in Gastonia, NC on August 1,1967 to Brenda (James) Houston of Charlotte, NC and Carmie (Diane) Elmore of Summerfield, NC. He was passionate about sports and a natural on the basketball court. He developed into a powerhouse player and played basketball at Oral Roberts University and Charleston Southern University, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
His professional career spans over 30 years working with children, youth, and families in Human Services at New Hope Treatment Center, Charter Hospital, and the last 25 years at Windwood Farm for Boys. Anthony had an unrelenting passion for nurturing young people. He spent decades advocating, mentoring, and coaching.
Anthony was a man of strong faith and a member of Royal Missionary Baptist Church.
He also leaves to cherish his memories three brothers, James Houston, Carmie Elmore Jr., and James Elmore; one sister, LaKisha Sanders; mother-in-law, Vivian Tate; in-laws, Daniel Tate, Baron Tate, Christina Leverette-McCowan, and Phyllis Wilson; Uncles & Aunts – William (Doris) Sykes of Stanley, NC; Benjamin (Valerie) Tate of Norcross, GA; Marshall (Margie) of Greensboro, NC; Vickey Sykes, of Dallas, NC; Barbara Rankin of Charlotte, NC; Vanessa Sykes of Mt. Holly, NC; Shirley (Larry) Tate of Belmont, NC; Willie Mae Switzer & Joyce Houston of Charlotte, NC; Stephany Ledbetter of Winston Salem, NC; Geneva Lamar of Atlanta, GA; Lifelong friends and brothers – Randy & Carla (Macayla - Goddaughter) Sharpe of Charlotte, NC and Louis & Cindy (Rachel – Goddaughter) Ambroise of Summerville, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by grandparents, William & Melva Sykes, Edward & Ada Houston, and Carmie & Wilhelmina Elmore; father-in-law Billy Tate, mother-in-law Peggy Lee, and grandparents-in-law Willie & Clara Tate.
His Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Northwood Church, Summerville, SC. The graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 25 at 1:30 p.m. at Mt. Herman Baptist Church Cemetery in Anderson, SC.
**Please note the time change.** Public viewing will be held on Friday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 until 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted at the home for the Celebration of Life. Flowers for the graveside service can be sent to Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home in Anderson, SC.
