Annie Kate McGowan Washington was born on March 26, 1951 and entered her heavenly home on March 26, 2023.
She was the daughter of the late Edward Lee McGowan and the late Hattie Oglesby McGowan. She was formerly married to Kenneth Washington.
She graduated in 1968 from J.S. Wright High School in Abbeville, SC. She was a faithful member of Flat Rock A.M.E. Church until her health declined at the age of 33. She was a member of the Jessie Bell martin Missionary Society and a member of the Women's Home Aide Society Lodge 100. She was also a former president of the Emergency Club. In her early years, she was an usher, choir member, stewardess, and attended Sunday School faithfully.
Annie Kate worked at Oxford Manufacturing for 15 years. She was the neighborhood mother and was greatly loved by her family, friends, and neighbors.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Rochelle Washington Bates (Tito Smith) of Due West, SC; sons, Kenneth Washington, Jr. (Shawn) of Columbia, SC, and Kelvin Washington of Anderson, SC; seven grandchildren, LeChelsea, Javin, Nailychaia, Keon, Leanna, James, and Kelsii; five sisters, Lucille Donaldson, Addie Lae Brownlee, Sheila Terry, and Melissa Martin of Antreville, SC and Mary Ann Hatten of Anderson, SC; one brother, James McGowan of Anderson, SC; one sister-in-law, Vivian Joan Mays of Due West, SC; one brother-in-law, Gerald Terry of Antreville, SC; three special sisters, Cora Lee, Margaret Ann Cunningham, and Eva Mae Martin; two special brothers, Homer Cunningham and Timothy Harkness; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her three sisters-in-law, Geneva McGowan, Vonetta Valentine, and Dorothy Bell Jackson; and five brothers-in-law, Harold Washington, Murrie Bell, Earlia Donaldson, Curtis Brownlee, and James Hatten.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023 at Flat Rock A.M.E. Church. The interment will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
