Annette Jenkins

Annette J. Berry Jenkins, age 96, of 2008 Bolt Drive, Anderson, SC, entered eternal rest on April 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 2, 1928, to the late Rev. Luther J. and Adell Jackson in Easley, SC.  At an early age she graduated as Salutatorian from Reed Street High School. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in education from Claflin University, graduating magna cum laude. During her time at Claflin, she was an active member of the college choir, drama club, South Carolina State and Claflin mixed ensemble, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., serving diligently for 75 years. Her educational journey continued at South Carolina State University and
Clemson University.

Annette was a pillar of the community, teaching English and Reading, directing the choir, and advising the drama program, majorettes, and Art at Geer-Gantt High School and Belton Middle School District #2 for over 35 years. She joined Thompson Centennial United Methodist Church at an early age, serving as Choir Director, PPRC member, Trustee, Board member, and head of numerous fundraisers. Known affectionately as Momma, Grandma Net, Aunt Annette, Baby Sister, Mrs. Berry, Mrs. Jenkins, friend, and Counselor, Annette touched many lives. 

She is survived by her loving daughters, Patrice “Patty” (Shon) Scott of Matthews, NC, and Sauncha (Shae) Timpson of Anderson, SC; three grandchildren, Therressa “Pooh Pooh” Henderson (Miguel) of Belton, SC, Deon Scott (Octavia) of Woodstock, GA, and Drake Scott (Crystal) of Raleigh, NC; seven great-grandchildren, Mia Lopez-Henderson, Omari Scott, Dakota Scott, Jordan Scott, Kailey Scott, Demi Scott, and Lily Scott; nephew, Marion Weaver (Barbara) of Tallahassee, FL; nieces, Dr. Robena Egemonye of Anderson, SC, and Janeen Daniels of New Jersey; great-nephew, Demazio Skelton,Sr. (LaShanda); five great-nieces, Dr. Uche Egemonye, Koli Aniedobe (Nnamdi), Tosi Ufodike (Chidebelu), Cheznee Johnson (Clint), and Harriet Weaver; great-great nieces and nephews Sanaa Wilson, Karson Geer, Sydnee Wilson, Jennifer Weaver, Tony Smith, Marcus
Jackson, Marcus Skelton, Andrew Skelton, Gena Jefferson-Lathon, Shannon Jenkins, Trend Jenkins; and a host of relatives and friends.

Annette Jenkins always had a smile on her face and a word of encouragement for everyone. Her motto was, “Education is the key to success, and no one can take it away from you.” She led a full and active life, and her generous spirit will surely be missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Luther Berry and Bobby Jenkins; son Chevalier Berry; siblings David Jackson, Evaston Jackson, Alex Jackson, Zomenia Weaver, Clara Bell Skelton; nephews, Larry Skelton, Luther Skelton, Will Weaver; niece, Denise Weaver; great-niece Zenobia Wilson and special friends Lucy Means, Hattie Greene, and Glenda Jefferson.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2025 at Thompson Centennial United Methodist Church. The interment will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery. Public viewing on Sunday from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  The Omega Omega Service will start at noon.  Viewing will follow until time of the service.
