Allen Jefferson Norwood, a welder of Vulcan Materials, died on May 22, 2024 at the age of 80. He was born December 30, 1943 to the late Dorothy Norwood. He was the brother of Bobby Robinson, David Davidson, and the late Betty Davidson. He married his wife Mamie on March 31, 1968 and from this union they had four children.
Allen was a jack of all trades. He was very skilled in many talents and trades: fishing, hunting, gardening, crafting, artist, arborist, farming, master cook, musician, mechanic, and welder. His nickname was "Baby Hercules". He was well respected by the community and would help anyone he could. He would take on difficult and unwanted projects at work, in the community, and around the house.
Allen was a devoted husband and father. He was a man of dignity and inner strength, a man of character, integrity, courage, and bravery. He was resilient in the face of adversity and had a profound respect and affection for others. Allen had a vibrant personality and warm spirit. His loyalty and admiration made a strong impact on the lives of others. His motto was "Don't mess with me, I won't mess with you".
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. Allen is survived by his wife, Mamie Norwood, his children, Dorothy Trotter of Piedmont, Helen (Anthony) Fields of Anderson, SC, Allean Norwood of Greenville, SC, Hiram (Seiko) Norwood of Odarwa, Japan; grandchildren, Stephen DuBose, Aaron (Rosa) Howard, Sydne Fields, Joshua Fields, Gen Norwood, and Jorden Norwood; great-grandchildren, Keegen DuBose, Karsen DuBose, Elise Howard, Kyler DuBose, Avery Agnew, Raelyn Citrone, and Aaron Howard, Jr; and a host of relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 in the Ollie Robinson Brown Memorial Chapel of Marcus D. Brown Funeral Home. The interment will follow at Memory Gardens. Public viewing Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
